John Peterson came to Mullen & Filippi in 2021 with over 20 years of workers’ compensation litigation experience. Prior to joining M&F, he worked as in-house staff counsel for AIG and State Compensation Insurance Fund, as well as a statewide private workers’ compensation defense firm. During that time, John handled a wide range of high-value and sensitive cases, including asbestos related injuries, serious and willful claims (LC § 4553) and claims of employer discrimination (LC § 132a). He has tried numerous cases, including total disability cases, death cases and matters involving employee fraud.
John graduated magna cum laude from CSU Sacramento in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He then attended University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, graduating in 1997. In 2002, Mr. Peterson completed the 13-week CAAAU workers’ compensation course in Berkeley, CA. In 2004 he attended and completed the SCIF in-house workers’ compensation attorney training.
When not defending workers’ compensation claims, I like to play tennis, snowboard and swim. I am a father of two teenage boys that constantly surprise me and keep me on my toes. If I wasn’t an attorney, I would probably be a teacher.
