Career Basics

Karisa McNamara began her legal career in 1999. She first worked in child support and then criminal prosecution as a deputy district attorney. In 2003 she started workers’ compensation defense. Since beginning in workers’ compensation, she has represented self insured employers, insurance carriers, and third party administrators in various employment fields. Her experience ranges from professional athletes to construction workers.

Education

Karisa’s undergraduate education was at University California San Diego, where she majored in political science with dual minors in Law and Society and History. After graduating with a Bachelors of Arts, she went to the University of Southern California Law School, graduating with a Juris Doctor in 1998.

Personal Note

The most important lesson I have learned is the importance of communication and patience. In order to have a workers’ compensation career that lasts decades, you need to be able and willing to work with judges and opposing counsel to quickly and efficiently resolve issues and cases. There are cases that need to be litigated and cases that need to be settled. Knowing the difference is a key skill that is only developed over time.
