Personal Note

As a lawyer practicing workers’ compensation, I have the opportunity to push myself on multiple levels: legal, medical, and personal. Workers’ compensation is an extremely complex area of law, and the rules governing litigation are always evolving. The medical component exposes me to a wide variety of conditions, treatment protocols, and how different doctors can come to very different conclusions about the same individual. But what really fascinates me about workers’ compensation is the endless variety of people – adjusters, applicants, lawyers, and doctors – who populate the practice. Navigating different people’s demands while ensuring the best possible outcome for my client is a challenge that I always look forward to.
I began fencing in high school. One of my coaches was a retired defense attorney, and encouraged my pursuit of a legal career. The other fencers in my club came from a wide variety of careers, but the one constant was that they were mentally agile. In between bouts, we would bounce from topic to topic – politics to the movie Labyrinth to medieval history. Getting to know, and figuring out how to work with or work around, people is still one of the most fascinating parts of my job.
