Career Basics

Martyn ‘Marty’ Collins joined the Oakland office of Mullen & Filippi in 2023. He was briefly involved in the entertainment industry before joining GE as a Long Term Care analyst. He then practiced general litigation before making a concerted effort to become a workers’ compensation attorney. Marty was an enthusiastic applicant attorney for four years, and remains equally enthusiastic about workers’ compensation on the defense side.

Education

Marty received his undergraduate degree in Speech Communication from Cal Poly State University, where he was a member of the Speech and Debate Team. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University.

Professional Membership

Marty is a member of the State Bar of California. He is also a Team Member of the OK Program of Oakland, where he is a youth mentor.

Personal Note

I became an attorney because my life experience and interests made it suitable to pursue. I did not love lawyering until I became a workers’ compensation attorney.
I was born in Kansas City, Missouri and raised in Los Angeles. As a teen I wanted to be a Pastry Chef. I am a father of two young adults. My son, Karl, is a tennis player at the University of Hawaii. My daughter, Ivy, just graduated high school and attends Napa Valley College with an emphasis on the Spanish language.
